Yeah, I was selfish and chose the blog title as the first post.
Day 1 on the blog, and I can't be more excited to see how this pans out. I was listening to some new tracks I found on Bandcamp today and a wild hair struck me; I felt the creative juices flowing. I realized I wanted to step back into the literary world with a blog again and I knew it felt right. What separates this from the other couple I've written for is the lack of, well, rules. I needed a collaboration to keep this alive and well and I wanted to tap the intellect of some of my fellow musicians (soon to appear I'm sure). The entire purpose of this site is to discover and illuminate new music and artists because frankly, I like to, and because it makes it easy on anyone who visits this to get a quick snapshot of whats soon to be in the music industry. Nobody (except us apparently?) really wants to take the time to sift through 10 pages of Soundcloud tags to find a song they like. Real talk. If you like what we post and how we talk about it, have faith and carry on. If you want more in-depth track-busting, we'll link to the songs we're talking about so you can peruse them yourself; believe me when I say I understand that curious musical mind. But to bring this short intro to a close, I say welcome and I hope you see a couple things that peak your interest.
Down to business.
As I said earlier, I was sifting through Bandcamp, and I found a lovely little gem called Tide (feat. Term K) by Purrple. Take a gander and I'll talk about what I liked.

It's got headnodic beats; the first of many times I'll use that word. About thirty seconds in I'll bet your head was slowly bobbing to that syncopated percussion. Another personal weakness is the female lead. I've had a few voice lessons and I know a confident, no-nonsense vocalist when I hear one. Her tone is smooth but not overpowering, which only lends weight to the rapper Term K who steps in for a verse to give his straightforward lyrics. I loved the combination of the two and the interplay between both was the point at which I knew I had to share this song with everyone else. The rest of the album doesn't fail to disappoint, with similar rap features and a focus on the talents of the lead singer. Finally, to top it off, Purrple has generously made the EP available for free download which is frankly icing on the cake at this point. I look forward to the next full album that is released, and hope that we will soon be filling the pages with personal favorites like this.
