So I went out to the bar tonight for some personal pleasure, but lo and behold a jazz band called 'Arts and Sciences' caught my eye as i was sitting enjoying my whiskey. The only genre I could possibly come close to coining this band as is jazz. Syncopated rhythms one moment and another you feel the headnodic trip-hop vibe that - just as soon as it arrives- jumps into a free thinking new age feel. Struck by the combined creative power of this group, I was compelled to give them a nod and hopefully a more in depth discussion later. My phone is quitting but the constantly generated flow of tones and dissonance never will. Ian signing off from Northside Tavern, Queen City.
"True school lyrical scholarship" Couldn't say it better myself. This cat says the words that the soulful blues guitar can only hope to express. Not a bad song in this album, although it only has three. I have to give props for the brevity of this album though; I like three home runs more than the normal four or five ground-rule-doubles you get in the average 16 song album these days. He isn't to rushed in his lyrics which only gives more weight to his well constructed verses, and lends itself to the well paced blues riffs. Cigarette and neat whiskey required to listen; internal cognitive dissonance optional. -Ian |
