I've lost alot of writers over time and there are plenty of reasons why; the views have dipped and subscribers unsubscribed. That being said, I still find this a useful outlet to introduce music to those who I meet in the walks of life. I was recently playing for a friend of mine this weekend when I realized that deep down there's a part of me that will never give up the fantasy of performing for a living. I've decided to slightly change the site, adding EDM to the genres we cover. I know that many of these won't be strictly 'underground' but to many it will be a first listen. So shove off. I'll still try to keep this relevant though so don't be surprised if these songs were released--literally--yesterday. So suck it.

Ahhhhhh.......this is awkward. I know we took a little sabbatical, but this new year brings alot of music that needs to be heard! For now though, I have to give props to JULEP EP in the November archive. In fact, I'll even post-date this so it looks cooler (hush hush now) and less slack-y on our part.
I was at work sifting through sheet music when this group caught my ear. They are classified as "Dream Pop", which gives homage to those yummy synthesizers that we all forgot 1980 threw at us. It's cooler this time around though, 30 years was enough to take the edge off. In fact, this whole album could be described as taking the edge off. The amorphous sound goes hand in hand with the vocals because there is never any insistent tone; it's all edgeless and gently progressing. If you are in the mood to chill, head here first for sure. -Ian So I went out to the bar tonight for some personal pleasure, but lo and behold a jazz band called 'Arts and Sciences' caught my eye as i was sitting enjoying my whiskey. The only genre I could possibly come close to coining this band as is jazz. Syncopated rhythms one moment and another you feel the headnodic trip-hop vibe that - just as soon as it arrives- jumps into a free thinking new age feel. Struck by the combined creative power of this group, I was compelled to give them a nod and hopefully a more in depth discussion later. My phone is quitting but the constantly generated flow of tones and dissonance never will. Ian signing off from Northside Tavern, Queen City.
"True school lyrical scholarship" Couldn't say it better myself. This cat says the words that the soulful blues guitar can only hope to express. Not a bad song in this album, although it only has three. I have to give props for the brevity of this album though; I like three home runs more than the normal four or five ground-rule-doubles you get in the average 16 song album these days. He isn't to rushed in his lyrics which only gives more weight to his well constructed verses, and lends itself to the well paced blues riffs. Cigarette and neat whiskey required to listen; internal cognitive dissonance optional. -Ian Coming straight from Thompson House live! Season Ten is hitting hard tonight and I'm not disappointed that I came. They've got a great sound with a well balanced mix between an alternative vibe and angst touched vocals by lead singer Jared. The drummer and bassist tickle your chest from the back and side of the stage, all the musicians stand out in their aural support for each other. The Halloween EP release matches the tone they set tonight; there is a moody and almost punk sound. Look for the video interview later tonight!

Alright everyone so Dalton here again! So coming from a band that just released their album yesterday, a punk band that ranges from the one to two and a half minute mark, which is what you've come to expect from angsty punk bands. But from every track they've established exactly what they want to come across with every chorus replaced verse. They know exactly what they want to tell you and they make it a point to tell you without soft metaphors. Hey everyone! Dalton here! Sorry about my last post just jumping straight in without any kind of introduction. I'm just one of your peon writers trying to find new music for all of you and I might have a habit of jumping into things a tad too quick. Anywho onto what you're all here for, new punk band I just came across and they're hailing all the way from Schopfheim, Germany going by the name Frau Hölle. I'm quite pleased to have the chance to post our first music video review. Beat the rest of you guys to it! Ha! But yeah, I found Einar Stray on Bandcamp which I've been using alot of lately. There's a major element of these guys that I really like: live shows. The music video for this is (apparently) their live show edited for sound and adding some post production video effects. I love the 'real' feeling that you get from watching this (and I hate to say that) which adds more weight to the already easily related lyrics. Being from 'Murica, I notice the accent when he sings but I think it adds some nice coloring in the sound. There's also a point to make with the live show; the only electronic equipment to be seen is the keyboard itself and microphones! All of these elements combine and form a well constructed emotional structure for the listen to, and the uplifting major chords just keep carrying you higher and higher. -Ian- Enough about my opinion, check this video out: Sifting through Band Camp's relentless library, I stumbled across the Blood on the Walls album. A unique blend of underground hip-hop, distorting the minds of those who listen to the radio's nonsensical mixes between pop and rap. Intense beats fall into calming melodies and you find yourself kicking your foot as you listen to harsh words that seamlessly transition between tracks. "Starts with the master plan Listening to these tracks, plugging your headphones in and walking through the world gets your mind wondering about why life works the way it does. Whether you get the same vibe or not it still gets your mind pacing and it's still worth the time for listening to unique and different featured artists such as Habeas Corpus and General X and DJs like DJ Rhum'1 and DJ Madhandz. Anyway! Download the album. Help the artists out by leaving us a comment, talk to your friends about us, and most important, share these guys on Facebook, Twitter, tumblr, whatever social media you use. Help the bands and artists and give us a purpose for being here! The album is free to download, full songs, full album!
I'll be on sharing all kinds of music, punk, rock, hip-hop. If you have any requests for music you wanna see shared, feel free to add us on Facebook or Twitter, you can find any of the writers and we'll do what we can to get back to you. -Dalton |
